At Karnataka Chalanachitra Kalavidara Sangha, Dr Vishnuvardhan still awaits his due: Anirudh Vishnuvardhan

Bengaluru: It’s been 11 years since actor Dr Vishnuvardhan passed away in December 2009, the family of the actor has been still fighting for his due recognition.

Actor Anirudh Vishnuvardhan, the son-in-law of Vishnuvardhan who has been perennially struggling to keep alive the memories of the latter for posterity has reminded the authorities irrespective of filmdom and government to take the call.

Anirudh, who feels deeply pained, cites the example of Karnataka Chalanachitra Kalavidara Sangha, on Pampa Mahakavi road, Chamarajpet.

The building is named after thespian actor Dr Rajkumar as “Dr Rajkumar Bhavan” and the auditorium is named after Dr Ambareesh. But Vishnuvardhan? No, there is no mention of Vishnuvardhan anywhere.

“I don’t have any qualms about both the actors (Dr Rajkumar and Dr Ambareesh), as their contribution to films is unparalleled, but Vishnuvardhan also deserves a fitting tribute,” said Anirudh.

“When I brought it to the notice of Bharati Vishnuvardhan, the latter asked to wait, giving ample time for those in the authority to act, but nothing fructified,” regretted Anirudh.

“Even when I raised the issue at Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce, where the bust of Dr Rajkumar is installed, the then president was of the view that, such requests may not stop at this juncture, as there are many actors in the industry. Indicating that, it won’t stop with the installation of Vishnuvardhan’s bust alone,” recalled Anirudh.

“Whenever there is a mention of sandalwood, two names are taken with reverence- Dr Rajkumar and Dr Vishnuvardhan. Both the legendary actors should get their due,” said Anirudh.

Even when Appavru (Vishnuvardhan) was alive, I was speaking about his due, as he should have got Dadasaheb Phalke Award, Padma Vibhushan. But, Appavru was of the opinion that ” Award should come, but we should not follow it.”

At Kalavidara Sangha, the reason for not considering Vishnuvardhan was that he had not served as the Association president. But, one cannot deny the fact that he always vouched for the cause of artistes and had involved in many activities.

Strange was, it was told to collect signatures of fans to gain support for the cause, and was also collected with all the hopes. But there is no response yet, rues Anirudh who made a fervent appeal.
