Wild tusker electrocuted; forest department books farmer in Nagarahole

Mysuru: A wild tusker was electrocuted while crossing a farm land at Anemala on old Mysuru-Manandavadi Road in Nagarahole Tiger Reserve on Thursday.

The male elephant aged around 30 to 35 years tried to cross the land near D B Kuppe range in Nagarahole Tiger Reserve at around 6-30 am, when it came in contact with a solar fence of a revenue land connected to electric line.

The villagers informed forest department regarding the elephant’s death by electrocution.

Uday alias Thomas who had illegally drawn the electric line to solar fence is booked on the charges of elephant’s death.

Forest officers of Nagarahole Tiger Reserve visited the spot and autopsy of the elephant was conducted after shifting the carcass from revenue land to forest area.

The accused Uday is booked under sections 9 and 22 of Wildlife Conservation Act.

A complaint has been also lodged at Antarsanthe Police Station.

Meanwhile, accused Uday has went absconding after the incident.

Forest officials also informed Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (Cesc) to inspect the illegal power connections at the forest area.

DCF and Director of Nagarahole Tiger Reserve Harshakumar Chikkanaragund and Metukuppe ACF Rangaswamy K N, Veterinarian Dr Ramesh and Cesc and Antarasanthe police visited the spot.
