Tipu Jayanti: Mysuru Congress leaders to continue to celebrate

Mysuru: In what has led to a political slug fest after the BJP led State Government decided to cancel Tipu Jayanti celebration in the State, Congress leaders have decided to fight it tooth and nail.
KPCC, minority wing and Vishwakarma federation, Mysuru Zone has decided to celebrate Tipu Jayanti as usual on November 10, in the city, in a grand manner.
As the Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa decided to revoke the earlier order on Tipu Jayanti, on the basis of a requisition from Virajpet MLA K G Bopaiah, the Congress leaders have decided to extend an advance invitation to Bopaiah to inaugurate the festival.
In a press release, Zonal Convener Zakir Hussain has said ‘by striking down the Jayanti, Yediyurappa has insulted the cultural icon of the minority community. However the keaders irrespective of community have decided to go ahead with the event and extend an advance invitation to Bopaiah to inaugurate the event’.
Hussain has listed the various contributions of Tipu Sultan only to remind Bopaiah that ‘Tipu played a key role in the fight against British, besides introducing Sericulture to the country and revoking a dastardly tax system at Malabar in Kerala and saved women folk, established a stud farm in Kunigal and annulled the practice of social boycott of dalits and introduced tax on land’.
