Tackling Covid Third Wave! Columbia Asia Hospital Mysore, Delhi Public School host webinar

Mysuru: With predictions from experts that the country will face Covid-19 third wave sooner than later, and the most affected section of population this time are predicted to be children, Columbia Asia Hospitals Mysore in association with Delhi Public School (DPS) Mysore had organised an awareness webinar on “Tackling Covid third wave”.
This virtual session was attended by 124 parents, students and teachers of DPS Mysore.
During the session Dr Bhuvaneshwar, Consultant Paediatrician, Columbia Asia Hospitals Mysore (A Unit of Manipal Hospital) shed light on how the anticipated Covid-19 third wave might affect children and the measures to mitigate the risks were discussed.
The third wave of the virus is likely to hit the country later this year. According to researchers and health experts the third wave may affect children more compared to other population.
While addressing the parents and teachers, Dr Bhuvaneshwar said “This pandemic has disrupted all our lives in the last 16 months. Though, few children got infected by Covid 19 in the first and second wave, most of them have exhibited mild to moderate symptoms or were asymptomatic. With the expected third wave it is important to safeguard our children from the virus and it is our responsibility to take precautions.”
Inculcating the habit of practicing covid appropriate behavior like maintaining social distancing, hand hygiene and wearing masks is crucial. Also, vaccinating the family members will help in controlling the
spread of infection. Encouraging the children to follow healthy diet will help in booting their immunity, Dr Bhuvaneshwar said.
And also as a foremost step, ensuring to take them to the hospital if they experience any symptoms is crucial in identifying the problem and treating it early, Dr Bhuvaneshwar added.
Talking about the webinar Namrata Sharma, Principal, Delhi Public School, Mysore said “The session organised by Columbia Asia Hospital Mysore was informative and such sessions are the need of the hour. Parents were happy to participate in the webinar as many fear the repercussions of the third wave and the impact it might have on children. This association with Columbia Asia Hospital is helping us in educating the parents, teachers as well as students in terms of the health problems they experience during the pandemic.”
This interactive session witnessed many parents asking questions about identifying the symptoms of Covid in children and the necessary precautions to be taken to avoid it.
