Swachhata Pakhwada! SWR, Mysuru division to devote 100 hours per year for cleanliness

Mysuru: Pursuant to the directives of the Ministry of Railways, Swachhata Pakhwada is observed every year to commemorate the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation.

South Western Railway, Mysuru division, is organising ‘Swachhata Pakhwada’ Campaign commencing from September 16 to October 02, 2020 with the focus primarily on avoiding single use plastics or reusing /recycling plastic in railway offices, onboard trains in the periphery of railway stations and to make a visible impact on cleanliness during Swachhata Pakhwada.

On the opening day of the campaign held on the premises of Divisional Office in Mysuru, Aparna Garg, Divisional Railway Manager, Mysuru Division, administered the Swachhata Pledge to railway officers, staff of divisional office and safai karmacharis.

The oath urges to serve Mother India by keeping the country neat and clean. It also aims to devote 100 hours per year that is two hours per week to voluntary work for cleanliness.

In her address, Garg called upon all the railway staff to internalise the pledge and work earnestly to make offices and railway areas clean and make cleanliness a virtue in everyday life.

She also underscored the point that there should be no mismatch between our thoughts and actions.

In the period from September 16 to October 02 a series of cleanliness activities are planned over the division.

K Krishnaraj, senior divisional environment and housekeeping manager emphasised the significance of eradication of single use plastic and importance of Swachhata in this COVID scenario.

He also mentioned that September 16 is recognized as International Day for the preservation of Ozone layer as a part of Montreal protocol.

After the pledge officers and staff actively participated in Shramdaan in the vicinity of divisional office building by removing plastic waste and other garbage.
