Suttur Fair begins with myriad events awaiting all

Mysuru: Deputy Chief Minister Govinda M Karjol opined that “Suttur mutt is following in the footsteps of 12th century social reformer Basaveshwara. From bringing social reforms to eradication of caste system, building egalitarian society to educating the poor, the mutt is rendering yeoman services”, said Govinda Karjol.

Poet H S Venkateshamurthy said the mutt is doing societal rejuvenation through its moral way of teaching life skills.

Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister J C Madhuswamy said “erstwhile ruler of Mysuru Nalwadi Krishanraja Wadiyar and the mutts navigated the development of the State, without who we couldn’t have imagined the progress of the State in its present level”.

Suttur mutt is really guiding rural empowerment as it’s necessary to reduce the gap between poor and rich, he said.

All the guests inaugurated the desi games by playing snake and ladder game by rolling a dice.
Women, especially Mayor Pushpalatha Jagannath, ZP Vice- president Gowramma Somashekar and former mayor Modamani played Haliguli Mane’ another traditional game much to the enthusement of the gathering.

Suttur fair is celebrated to mark the birth anniversary of its first Jagadguru of Suttur Mutt Sri Shivarathrishwara Shivayogi, the the pioneer of Suttur Guru Parampara.

The fair will be held for six days till January 26. It’s a mix of social, cultural, sports, folk and agriculture related events to cater to the needs of all.
Suttur seer Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Swamiji, Shivananda Swamiiji from Hunsur, former chief minister M Veerrappa Moily, Kidwai Hospital director Dr C Ramachandra, Karnataka State Planning Commission vice- chairman B J Puttaswamy and former MLA Vasu were present. present
