Mysuru: A tusker that has made life miserable for people living in the fringes of Nagarahole forest of late, attacked a car injuring one of the travellers at about 8 am.

Shankar aged 50 years, was seated inside his car when the elephant that came charging towards the vehicle from a farm, hit the door of the driver side with its trunk, before running amok.

Shankar who suffered serious injuries on his right leg was rushed to a government hospital in Hangod, where he was administered first aid. He was later shifted to a hospital in Mysuru for further treatment.

The villagers who learnt about the incident warned of resorting to aggressive protest, if the forest department fails to initiate action. They took the forest personnel to task upon their arrival.

The same elephant has been creating havoc in Mathigod range from the past one week. While it has gored two cattle to death, it has attacked four people, besides damaging a house, the irate villagers told forest officials.
