Six-day lecture series on “Sociological thinkers and their perspectives” held

Mysuru: Department of Sociology and IQAC, Teresian College and Department of Sociology of Maharaja’s College, University of Mysore, Mysuru had jointly organised six- day lecture series on “Sociological thinkers and their perspectives”.
These lecture series were through Google Meet and Live streaming in
YouTube. Around 560 participants had registered. The lecture series started at 2 pm daily and continued till 4 pm.
On June 21 Dr Rekha Jadhav, Associate Professor Department of Sociology Maharajas College, UoM Mysuru welcomed the gathering, followed by inaugural address by Prof Anita Vimala Braggs Principal Maharaja’s College, UoM, Mysuru.
Prof R Indira, formerly Professor and Chairperson of the Department of Sociology
at the University of Mysore the Immediate Past President of Indian Sociological
Society delivered keynote address and stressed on the importance of sociological thinkers.
Dr Veena M Almeida Principal, Teresian College delivered presidential address.
The speaker for the day was Prof Rapheal, formerly HoD, St Philomena’s College,
Mysuru on the topic “Origin and development of social thought.”
Dr M Manjula, HOD of Sociology, Maharaja’s College, proposed vote of thanks. Dr Sr Rohini, Administrator, Sr Gladies Castelino, Prof Annie Mathew
and Dr Jeyanthi, IQAC coordinator were present.
On June 22, the lecture series started with Fathima Dilna from Teresian College welcoming the gathering.
Sheeba Rani Assistant Professor, Department
of Sociology from Teresian College introduced the speaker for the day
Dr Premula Raman, formerly HoD of Sociology Teresian College.
She briefed on “Life and contribution of August Comte.” Alphy Maria from Teresian
College proposed vote of Thanks.
On June 23, the lecture series started with words of welcome by Maria Alice from Teresian College, followed by Dr Shasikant Pattan, Principal of Pharamacy College Pune addressed the gathering. Dr Veena M Almeida Principal, Teresian College wished the gathering on this occasion.
Sonia Assistant Professor, Department of History from Teresian College introduced the speaker for the day Dr Ashwini Patil Assistant Professor, Dept of Sociology, K S Jigalur Arts College for Women, Dharwad.
The speaker introduced Max Weber’s life and also explained briefly about his contribution towards sociology. Murulidhara K R Assistant Professor, Department from Maharajas college, Mysuru proposed a vote of Thanks.
On June 24, the lecture series started with Dinamani B S Assistant Professor,
Department of Sociology from Maharaja’s college, Mysore welcoming the gathering.
Special guest for the lecture series was Prof Manish K Verma Department of
Sociology and controller of Education, Lucknow.
Dr Sr Prafula, Assistant Professor
Department of Sociology Teresian College introduced special guest for the day Prof
Manish K Verma.
He briefly enlightened the gathering about sociological perspective.
Sr Jessu Ansu, PU Principal Teresian College introduced the speaker Dr Jayapal H R Assistant Professor, KSOU, Mysuru.
The speaker introduced “Karl
Marx life and his sociological perspectives.”
Dr Somalatha K S Assistant Professor,
Department of sociology from Maharaja’s college, Mysore proposed vote of
thanks.
On June 25, the lecture series started with Khubilui of 2nd BA, Teresian College Mysuru welcoming the gathering and the days chief guest Prof Ramegowda was welcomed and introduced by Dr Rekha Jadhav.
Dinamani B S Assistant
Professor, Department of Sociology from Maharaja’s college, Mysuru introduced
the speaker of the day Prof Gracy Vasanthi formerly HoD Maharani’s College,
Mysuru. She enlightened the gathering briefly explaining about “Emily Durkheim and his contributions to Sociology.”
Dr Prasanth Assistant Professor, Department of Sociology from Maharajas college, Mysuru proposed vote of Thanks.
On June 26, Sonia M V Department of History welcomed the gathereing
followed by introduction of chief guest Dr Ningraje Gowda Syndicate member, by
Devaraj Dept of Sociology, Maharaja’s college.
Dinamani gave a brief report about six days lecture series followed by Dr Ningraje Gowda addressing the gathering. It was followed by introduction of the speaker for the day Dr Santhosh Naik by Dr Somalatha, Dept of Sociology Maharaja’s college. Dr Santhosh Naik briefed about “Herbert Spencer and his contributions.”
Prof Anita Vimla Braggs, Principal Maharaja’s College gave valedictory address and stressed the importance of Arts subject and their future due in NEP-2020.
Dr Rekha Jadhav, Associate Professor, Department of Sociology from Maharajas college, Mysore briefed about the
outcome and results of six-day lecture series.
Dr Sr Prafula Assistant Professor,
Department of Sociology Teresian college, Mysore proposed vote of thanks.
The lecture series concluded with lots of appreciation and feedback from the
public.
