In a heart-touching moment, a wonderful group of Earth Buddies joined Sadhguru to plant a tree as an emblem of their commitment to Save Soil. 500 young Earth Buddies performed the now-viral Save Soil jig for Sadhguru.

Sadhguru also joined Actor and TV Presenter Tural Asadov in a conversation about the movement at the city’s famous Heydar Aliyev Center.

The event began with the captivating performance of Project Samskriti depicting the importance of soil. Envisioned by Sadhguru, Project Samskriti offers programs in Indian classical arts including music, dance, and Kalaripayattu – a martial art form. Indian Ambassador to Azerbaijan B Vanlalvawna described the importance of the movement and urged the people present to take up the message of the movement.

Sadhguru highlighted the need for policy interventions to tackle soil degradation and reminded us that soil is the largest living system.

“Whether it is a worm, insect, butterfly, man, woman, or any other animal that you see, everything has come from the soil. When I say soil, it is just 15-18 inches of soil. This magic is doing everything on soil,” he said. Pointing out that there is no guarantee that the next generation will keep the soil healthy he recommended, “It must be in the policy. If you hold agricultural land, a minimum of 3-6% organic content has to be there. For this incentive-based policy is needed.”

Explaining the MOUs signed with the government he described, “This is a way to know that the government is committed to enhancing its soil quality. We have already made a handbook for 192 nations as to how it be done. We have formed 192 policy documents. They are not policies per se but they are handbooks as to how policy can be made because it’s the prerogative of sovereign nations to make their policy. It has taken over two years with top scientists on how this can be done.”
