Mysuru: Mysore District Journalists Association (MDJA) organised a condolence meet to pay tribute to senior journalist K V Samapth Kumar, who recently passed away.

Sampath Kumar was the editor and publisher of Sudharma Sanskrit daily, the oldest and only daily in that language published from Mysuru.
Sanskrit scholar H V Nagaraj Rao explained the struggle endured by Sampath Kumar in bringing out the Sanskrit daily.

“None of the 13 Sanskrit Universities and scholars showed this kind of boldness to publish a Sanskrit journal. Sampath Kumar dedicated and sacrificed his whole life to popularise Sanskrit among common people and the readers,” said Rao.
His father K N Varadadaraja Iyengar (founder editor of Sudharma) influenced All India Radio (AIR) to broadcast news in Sanskrit. Without any advertisement that guarantees steady revenue to any publication, Sudharma is in circulation for over 50 years. Amid this, Sampath Kumar had to face legal battle also. With his death, we lost a true Sanskrit personality, regretted Rao.

Considering the unwavering service, central government selected Sampath Kumar couple for Padma Shree award, but unfortunately the award ceremony is delayed due to Covid-19 situation, he said.
MDJA President S T Ravikumar shared his memories with Sampath Kumar.
He also assured that MDJA will coordinate for the non-stop publication of Sudharma.
Journalists M T Jayaram, K Deepak, K J Lokesh Babu, M Subramanya, Pragathi Gopal Krishna, K S Girish, Kiran, M T Mahadev and Raghavendra were present.
