AAP against demolition of NTM school for Viveka Memorial, plans protest on Saturday

2 min read

Mysuru: As part of NTM Shaale Ulisi Horata Okkoota (Federation of Save NTMS Struggle Committee), Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Mysuru district unit is organising a protest in front of NTM School, N S Road on Saturday at 11 am.

Malavika Gubbivani convener of Mysuru district unit of AAP and other volunteers will participate in the protest.

Speaking on the ongoing NTM School controversy, Malavika Gubbivani has stated that “AAP is not against building a memorial of Swami Vivekananda but NTM School, which also has historical importance, should not be closed or demolished.”

The proposed “Viveka Smaraka” can be built on available vacant land within the premises. Youth convention centre can be built elsewhere. All social reforms have been through education only and not through conventions.

2. Government of Karnataka, instead of ensuring that the state run schools are managed properly, seems like they are deliberately letting the situation deteriorate so that the prime land can be usurped by vested interests.

3. While there is so much progress to be made in education sector, closing down schools is like taking a step backwards.

4. By closing schools, the Government is accepting that it has failed in education sector. Forget about starting new schools, the Government does not bat an eyelid before shutting down existing schools. It is unfortunate that education does not seem to be a priority or even important for GoK.

She said that the volunteers of AAP have been participating in the protest against the proposed demolition of NTM School and will continue to oppose the government move in the coming days, the release added.
