Mysuru: Rail Road Heritage Gallery on platform number one at the main railway station in the city has got a new look.
With better illumination, the rare photographs of dignitaries and miniature trains all tracing the evolution of train and thereafter have been exhibited at the refurbished gallery.
Dignitaries like Mahatma Gandhi, former president of India S Radhakrishnan, India’s first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru and the incumbent premier Narendra Modi are all captured in frames here.
A place that will definitely kindle interest of visitors, it has on display the history of railways in its nascent days from 1822 to 1950, showcasing the visit of various dignitaries to the station.
The movie buffs will surely love the Bollywood’s romance with rail in a dedicated section where the photos of noted actors like Dev Anand to Amitabh Bachhan and Shahrukh Khan on the train and stations, are hung up.
The diaroma of rail road depicting iconic railway station and the places of tourist interest like palace, Chamundi Hill and clock tower are well placed here.
In the days to come, the era of train from steam engine to super fast trains all captured in photographs will be arranged here.
The scaled miniature trains criss-crossing the track on the table is a delight to watch. The highlight is the proposed railway line between Mysuru and Kushalnagar in Kodagu, with the new Cauvery bridge. The first phase of the works is sanctioned in reality.
A video wall at the entrance will screen rare videos and documentaries, needless to say it’s all about trains.
The entry is free and those who do not want to waste time waiting for train, can surely find the gallery a fine place to educate themselves on the history of rail transport.
Mysuru and Kodagu MP Prathap Simha inaugurated the gallery. MayorPushpalatha Jagannath, MLA L Nagendra, MLC Marithibbe Gowda, General Manager, South Western Railway, Hubballi A K Singh, DRM, SWR, Mysuru, Aparna Garg and other officials were present.
