Odisha train accident: Over 50 feared dead, 179 injured

Odisha: Following the train accident at around 7 pm, 10-12 coaches of the Shalimar-Chennai Coromandel Express derailed near Baleswar and fell on the opposite track.
After some time, another train from Yeswanthpur to Howrah dashed into those derailed coaches resulting in the derailment of its 3-4 coaches, according to Railway Spokesperson Amitabh Sharma.
A total of 50 people are feared dead and over 179 injured in the train mishap and the death toll is rising.
Following this, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has announced ex-gratia compensation of Rs 10 lakh in case of death, Rs two lakh towards grievous injuries and Rs 50,000 for minor injuries.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President of India Draupadi Murmu and Vice- President Jagdeep Dhankar have condoled the deaths.
