Bengaluru: In a first, the Chief Election Commission has allowed working journalists in the State to cast their vote through postal ballot in the upcoming Assembly election. The Karnataka Union of Working Journalists (kUWJ) had appealed to the Commission to allow journalists to cast their vote from wherever they are working.
Journalists from both print and electronic media (including radio) who will be on field to cover elections would find it difficult to go to their native to cast their votes. Since they were duty-bound, they would miss out on exercising their franchise during all the elections. They were not considered for postal ballot until now. However, the Election Commission has considered the KUWJ’s appeal and agreed to allow journalists to vote through postal ballot method, said KUWJ president Shivanand Tagadur.
KUWJ president Tagadur has thanked the Commission for providing an opportunity to journalists to exercise their franchise.
