No state honour for Hirannaiah: Brahmins sore

1 min read

Mysuru: Noted theatre personality Master Hirannaiah who passed away on Thursday was not accorded a state honour during his funeral, alleged Mysuru city and district Brahmins association president D T Prakash.

He was speaking during a condolence meeting organised at the association office in Ittigegud in the city.

While the whole of state sang paeans of the theatre veteran, it is painful that the State Government did not accord him the honour. The government could have directed the district administration of Bengaluru in this regard, he said.

The issue over building a memorial for another actor late Vishnuvardhan still remains to be settled, and now Hirannaiah was denied his due. How fair it is to ignore the achievements of the duo just because they belong to Brahmin community?, questioned Prakash.

Hirannaiah who found a foothold in theatre from the city of Mysuru had won the likes of Maharaja Jayachamarajendra Wadiyar, Chief Minister R Gundurao and several others. Maharaja had even honoured him with a title- Kanteerava Ratna.

The government should name any road in honour of Hirannaiah and Karnataka Nataka Academy should plan programmes in Hirannaiah’s name in the interest of budding artistes, Prakash demanded.

Brahmins association rural wing president Gopal Rao, organising secretary Balakrishna, Havyaka Association president L N Hegde, former corporator Parthasarathi ( Pathi) and others were present.
