Mysuru: In an apparent bid to end speculation over B Y Vijayendra’s candidature from Varuna or Shikaripura, BJP veteran and former chief minister B S Yediyurappa clearly stated that he will convince the party high command to allow Vijayendra to contest from Shikaripura.

Speaking on the sidelines of a private programme – that he attended – here on Friday, Yediyurappa stated that “The high command is ready to field Vijayendra from Varuna but I have not agreed to it. Party workers from Varuna too are pressurising Vijayendra to contest from Varuna but there is no question of Vijayendra contesting from Varuna. Instead, he will contest from Shikaripura, the constituency that gave a chief minister to the State. There is no question of deserting Shikaripura. However, we will find a suitable candidate to contest from Varuna.”

He further stated that he will convince the party high command in this regard and there should not be any further debate on this.

Meanwhile, ticket aspirant Vijayendra has appealed to the party workers to wait till the party announces candidates’ list.

Karnataka will go to polls on May 10 and Congress’ heavyweight Siddaramaiah will contest from Varuna constituency in Mysuru district.
