Mysuru: Nowadays ‘No Cash’ boards hung up in front of ATMs in the city are greeting people. It may continue till the situation eases for good, but it still seems to be far from becoming a reality.
Most of the Automated Teller Machines (ATM) in the city and district lack sufficient cash. Many in the need of money who rush to ATMs to avoid lengthy queues in banks are returning with disappointment.
When Mysoorunews.com did a reality check, it turned out to be true as most of the ATMs on Chamaraja double road, Agrahara and surroundings had gone defunct due to similar reasons.
After the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to go digital, many of the youngsters opted for digital wallets, while senior citizens and women still prefer through physical mode. They are the worst affected, according to a senior citizen.
Around 750 ATMs are functioning in Mysuru district, with only very few of them dispensing cash, especially in the denominations of Rs 500, Rs 200 and Rs 100. While it’s been a long since, any were lucky to get the denomination of Rs 2,000 popularly known as ‘Pink Notes’ for the colour of it.
Leadbank Manager Venkatachalapathy told Mysoorunews.com “there are complaints from across the district because of the lack of the supply of notes in the denomination of Rs 2,000, that has led to cash crunch. So, notes in the denominations of Rs 500, Rs 200 and Rs 100 are being loaded to the ATM chest”.
Prabhu an IT Professional who visited nearly dozen ATMs, only to feel the pinch said “the authorities should take immediate action and help the people”.
