Mysuru City’s prospects ignored in outlay; hotel owners association upset

2 min read

Mysuru: Hoteliers of Mysuru have expressed their displeasure over the raw deal given to the City by the BJP government in the State budget.

On Friday, Hotel Owners Association president Narayangowda observed that the State government has ignored the City, royally. It was expected of the State government to announce Film City to the City, which is a long-pending demand. But Chief Minister Yeddyurappa barely mentioned about it.

Not just this. Even the Mysuru airport runway expansion did not get a mention in the Budget. Mysuru-Kodagu MP Pratap Simha had promised about the Mysuru runway expansion. But the chief minister has neglected it, rued the hoteliers.

“This is unfortunate that political representatives from this region are quiet about it. They do not seem to care about the City’s prospects,” complained association members.

Old tourism models is not effective in attracting tourists especially youngsters to the City, observed hotelier Prakash. He was of the opinion that the City needs to look beyond Mysuru Palace, Zoo or Jaganmohan Palace to boost its tourism prospects. At least 65 per cent of the people in the district are dependent on tourism. Now they are all disappointed, said Prakash Shetty.

However, the State government has kept aside Rs 500 crore for tourism and plans to set up a tourism task force with Infosys Chairperson Sudha Murty. “This is the only ray of hope for us,” he said.

Association President Narayana Gowda said that its time they built a network of organisations and strongly demand a special attention to the City.
