Mysuru: Mohanadasa a Kannada film portraying the childhood of Mahatma Gandhiji is all set to hit screens on Friday. The release will be be released on the eve of Gandhi Jayanti, on October 1.
Param Swamy the boy from Mysuru who has essayed the role of Mahatma released the poster of the movie along with his mother and theatre artiste Deepa Ravishankar and sister Lasya.
Award winning director of the movie P Sheshadri who took part in the press briefing through video conference said “though there are two films made on Gandhi ( Gandhi by Richard Attenborough and Making of Mahatma by Shyam Benegal), neither of them had focused more on the nascent days of Gandhi in full length. Even in his autobiography, Gandhi has reminisced about his early life in about 30 pages.
Sheshadri recalled how he was inspired after reading Boluvara’s “Papu Gandhi Bapu Gandhi Aada Kathe” to make a film.
When Gandhi was just known as Mohandas as a boy, especially between the age of seven and 14 years, there were several incidents that have been portrayed in this film. It has been shot in Porbander and Rajkot in Gujarat and also the house where Gandhi grew up.
Param Swamy felt proud about making it to the silver screen, as he was the one among 1800 children who were auditioned for the role across the State.
“I was just three-year-old when I acted in the movie,” recalled Swamy.
Deepa Ravishankar said “Actress Shruti has played Gandhi’s mother and senior actor Dattanna has also acted in the movie.”
Even though the shooting was wrapped up two years ago, the release of the film was delayed due to Corona situation. Plans are afoot to arrange screening exclusively for school and college students in the coming days, she added.
