Mayorship: No decision yet, says Sa Ra Mahesh keeping Congress on tenterhooks

1 min read

Mysuru: A day after Congress claimed to be in a position to decorate Mayor’s chair with the support of its ally JDS in Mysuru City Corporation, JDS MLA Sa Ra Mahesh on Wednesday said “there is no decision yet in this regard.”

Hinting at holding the bargaining powers still, Mahesh said that the party was willing to let go Mayor’s chair for the remaining term of the year to Congress, only if the latter agreed to its demand of allowing JDS to hold the reins for the remaining two terms of the council.

Mahesh said “I have spoken with KPCC Working President R Dhruvanarayan and MLA Tanveer Sait. But the statement made by Siddaramaiah earlier has hurt the  sentiments of our party and leaders. So we have not confirmed our stand. The next step depends on how Congress reacts to our demands,” he added.

A meeting has been convened this evening  at Mayor’s house in Vontikoppal, to decide about future course of action.

On Tuesday, Congress city unit President R Murthy had claimed that the party will be having its mayor this time with JDS support.

Following the disqualification of previous Mayor Rukmini Madegowda of JDS after a court order, the election is necessitated on June 11.

JDS and Congress have a truck in MCC, with Anwar Baig of Congress being the deputy mayor.
