Maddur Vada! Cabbage replaces onion, passengers raise a bogey of taste

Mysuru: Maddur Vada, the mere mention of common man’s refreshment is suffice to set hunger pangs. And, if it moves in and around you in cornucopia, mouth starts to water, especially at the notice of ubiquitous vendors on train.

But, the quality seems to be the issue with a train passenger raising a complaint on Twitter.
A Twitter user has posted a photo of the eponymous vada after breaking a piece only to show how historical maddur vada is made from cabbage leaves and sold at high cost of Rs 12. The vada is not up to the quality and unhealthy too…
He has complained to DRM of South Western Railway, Mysuru division on the official Twitter handle. The officer who took a due note has forwarded it to IRCTC South Zone officials to look into the quality with RPF assistance.
The complainant has said “I bought the vada on Chamundi Express train on January 27. It’s happening on every train we commute from Mysuru. Ban these vendors supplying unhealthy and unhygienic food and start IRCTC catering at main stations”.
Another Twitter user who also has the same complaint has alleged “In all the trains they are selling cabbage maddur vada. When I ask them, the onion price is high (theh say). The taste is also worst and the size has been drastically reduced and the price is hiked from Rs 10 to Rs 12 a piece. Please do quality check of these vendors who board at Kengeri and get down at Pandavapur (In Mandya)”.
When Mysoorunews.com delved into the ingredients used in preparing the particular vada, it was learnt taste can be felt if it’s made using sooji (serolina), onion, curry leaves and rice/ maida flour. But with cabbage, the taste is nigh impossible to feel.
