Mysuru: Following the reimposition of Covid safety norms, targeting large gatherings like marriages, many wedding dates are either being cancelled or postponed adding to the worries of the management of marriage halls.

Chairs arranged in equal distance as per Covid norms at a marriage hall in Mysuru.

Across Mysuru, many convention centers which were booked in advance for marriages are now gradually receiving requests to cancel the slot. Two out of 10 marriages are cancelled due to tough rules in place to tackle Covid second wave, by restricting the number of invitees to 100 for indoor gatherings and 200 for outdoor. Moreover, it is a must to seek permission from the deputy commissioner and respective police stations to book the slot at marriage halls.

Maintaining safe distance and compulsory wearing of mask compulsory has created chaos and confusions among public especially those who wish to attend marriage functions. Many of them are skipping weddings and many of the families are cancelling the wedding and postponing due to Covid caused tension.

Convention halls association President K R Sathyanarayan told Mysoorunews.com “it’s a difficult time again, and government rules are necessary to protect public from the pandemic. Like cinema halls which were allowed to function with 50 per cent occupancy, wedding halls should also be permitted on the same lines. We appeal to concerned authorities to allow at least such functions, he said.

Across Mysuru district there are 85 wedding halls and 21 are located in Vishweshwar Nagar industrial suburb alone, which are highly affected. Despite many owners took strict measures to manage safe distance and make mask compulsory, government restricted the number of invitees to only 100 thus affecting choultry owners and dependents, Sathyanarayan claimed.

Safe distance markings are made common in wedding halls and employees are continuously involved in creating awareness about wearing mask. Despite this, people are in confusion and those who had booked convention halls are now slowly calling off the event.
