Bengaluru: Centenarian lexicographer Prof G Venkatasubbaiah passed away on Monday. He was 108.
Venkatasubbaiah who was popularly known as GV among his well-wishers and students was admitted at a private hospital here a week ago for urinary tract infection. He had undergone surgery and was also recuperating, with the doctors planning to discharge him in the day. However he breathed his last due to age related ailments at around 1.15 am.
A native of Ganjam in Srirangapatna taluk in Mandya, Venkatasubbaiah was an alumnus of University of Mysore. He did his BA from Maharaja’s College, Mysuru and intermediate at Yuvaraja’s. It was at Maharaja’s, Venkatasubbaiah came under the influence of poet laureate K V Puttappa aka Kuvempu.
According to family members, the mortal remains of Venkatasubbaiah is kept for viewing at his Jayanagar 7th block house. The last rites will be performed at Chamarajapet crematorium at 12.30 pm.
