1 min read

Karwar: Congress rebel candidate and former MLA Sharada Shetty who had filed her nomination as an Independent candidate from Kumta-Honnavar Assembly constituency has now withdrawn her nomination, after being convinced by KPCC president D K Shivakumar. She also announced that she will quit politics.

Sharada Shetty had rebelled after the party denied her ticket for Nivedith Alva, son of former Governor Margaret Alva from Kumta-Honnavar Assembly constituency. She told her supporters that her family had been in politics since several years, yet the Congress party did not consider her for the constituency. This has hurt her and hence decided to quit politics.

The Kumta-Honnavar Assembly constituency in Karwar had turned out be a headache for Congress as there were several ticket aspirants from the constituency. Apart from Sharada Shetty and Shivanand Hegde Kadatoka there were 15 aspirants for the ticket from the party. But the party chose Nivedith Alva over all of them leaving many upset.

With former MLA Sharada Shetty quitting politics and several disgruntled leaders, it is to be seen whether debutant Nivedith Alva will have a smooth ride, this election.
