Hubballi: Former chief minister and BJP Parliamentary Board member B S Yediyurappa has dared that Jagadish Shettar, Congress candidate in Hubballi-Central Assembly constituency, will suffer a humiliating defeat in this elections and he will write that in his blood.
Holding an impromptu meeting of Lingayat community members from all walks of life at a hotel on Gokul Rad in Hubballi, Tuesday night, Yeddyurappa trained his guns on his former colleague and now rival, Shettar. He told the gathering that this meeting has been convened to explain the reality of Jagadish Shettar to Lingayat community. “Shettar was made chief minister, Opposition leader and even Speaker. When B B Shivappa was adamant on becoming Opposition leader, we all supported Shettar. But Shettar has forgotten all this and has now joined Congress, blaming BJP,” Yediyurappa said.
“I will not call Shettar by his name from today. He is not worthy of trust. People will not forgive him as he cheated the party,” fumed Yediyurappa.
Reasoning out on his denial of ticket, Yediyurappa told the gathering that he was told the reasons for denying the ticket. But the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah had assured him of higher positions in the Centre. Yet, Shettar betrayed BJP, he said. “What injustice we have done to him. He has betrayed the BJP by joining the Congress. Hence, in this election, I appeal you to ensure BJP candidate Mahesh Tenginakayi’s victory with a huge margin,” Yediyurappa urged the gathering.
