Mysuru: Expressing his opinion for the first time since the resignation of BJP leader Jagadish Shettar, BJP candidate from Shikaripura B Y Vijayendra said that Shettar could have contested the elections, independently. “It is not right of him to join Congress. This has hurt us,” Vijayendra said.
Speaking to mediapersons here on Saturday, Vijayendra who is here to campaign for the party candidate V Somanna in Varuna, observed that it was unbecoming of Shettar to join Congress as the party always divided the Lingayat community to which Shettar belongs. “Everyone knows how the Congress treated then chief minister Veerendra Patil,y a Lingayat strongman, in Karnataka. Yet, Shettar joined the Congress. This has really hurt us,” he added.
He further said that Shettar’s resignation would not have an impact on the constituency and the BJP would certainly win in his constituency – Hubballi-Dharwad Central constituency.
Stating that the people of Varuna constituency are looking for a change this time, Vijayendra said the people will surely vote for BJP this time. He refused the rumours that there is a secret pact between Yediyurappa and Siddaramaiah in Varuna.
He thanked the people of Varuna. “People of Karnataka identified me from Varuna, as I share a great bond with the people here. I have great respect for the people of Varuna. Since, Yediyurappa has been representing Shikaripura, I could not contest from Varuna this time,” he added.
