Karnataka budget- 2023: Farmer leader Kurbur Shanthakumar lists demands to CM Siddaramaiah

Mysuru: In view of the State Budget session from July 3, Rajya Raitha Sanghatanegala Okkoota President Kurbur Shanthakumar has 12 demands.

Shanthakumar has urged Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to consider 12 demands in the budget.

They are as follows: Rice, Ragi, Jowar and Millets should be purchased by the farmers of the State for Anna Bhagya scheme according to the rates fixed in the report of M S Swaminathan Commission.

The Procurement Centres under Minimum Support Price (MSP) should be opened at every hobli levels on time on the lines of Punjab, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana States. The payment of farmers should be cleared in a week.

The Goods and Services Taxes (GST) on agricultural products, fertilisers, insecticides and drip Irrigation equipment should be withdrawn.

The existing farm loan policy for farmers should be changed and should be lend 75 per cent of the value of agricultural lands. The CIBIL score for farm loans should be scrapped.

The fair and remunerative price (FRP) of sugarcane should be fixed scientifically to stop the menace of cutting and transportation charges.

A law should be enacted fixing MSP for all agricultural products.

All farm products should be brought under Fasal Bima Yojana by amending some rules.

The guidelines for compensation for destruction of crops during natural calamity like floods and fire should be changed.

Rs five lakh insurance cover should be provided to the families of every farmer and farm workers like in Telangana.

The Land Reforms Act in the State should be withdrawn and the Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Act 2020 should be retained with few changes.

All the recreation centres and resorts in forest borders to stop threat from wild animals. The mines inside forest areas should also be stopped.
