Karnataka Assembly elections: In Just 10 days, seized cash, gold and freebies valued at Rs 100 cr!

Bengaluru: Ahead of State Assembly elections, cash, jewellery and other freebies seized throughout the State since March 29 have been valued at RS 99.18 crore, according to the Chief Electoral Officer’s seizure report. Since the model code of conduct came into force on March 29, authorities concerned have kept a strict vigil on the freebies including cash, liquor, sarees, jewellery and other objects used to lure voters ahead of the elections.
On Saturday alone, the vigilance squad seized Rs 88.50 lakh in cash, Rs 30.86 lakh worth freebies, Rs 1.67 cr worth liquor bottles, Rs 16.97 lakh worth ganja, Rs 16.07 lakh worth gold jewellery and Rs 3.20 lakh worth silver articles, said the press release.
So far, as many as 792 FIRs have been registered. Besides, as many as 1,760 complaints on malpractices have been registered through the C-Vigil app.
Meanwhile, Hescom executive engineer Nagaraj Kooballi has been suspended for poll code violation in Dharwad.
