Jumbo welcome! Dasara elephants amble into palace

Mysuru: It’s the beginning of Nada Habba Mysuru Dasara. Yes, the first batch of six Dasara elephants were welcomed at Palace in the city on August 26.

Following the set tradition, the district administration welcomed the elephants led by howdah carrier Arjuna at Jayamarthanda gate, during Abhijin lagna.

In the backdrop of chanting of vedic hymns and the beating of native drums, the caparisoned elephants were offered a grand welcome.

The first batch of elephants include Arjuna, Abhimanyu, Dhananjaya, Vijaya, Varalakshmi and Eshwara. District minister V Somanna led the elected representatives and officials in performing puja to the elephants.

Chief priest from Chamundeshwari temple at Chamundi Hill Shashishekar Dixit and priest Prahallad Rao performed the rituals.

MLA L Nagendra, Mysuru Kodagu MP Prathap Simha, Deputy Commissioner Abhiram G Sankar and others were present during the ceremony.
