Is Siddaramaiah wooing disgruntled former Dy CM Laxman Savadi?

1 min read

Belagavi: If rumours are to be believed, BJP MLC and former deputy chief minister Laxman Savadi is joining Congress party. Savadi who has been having a cold war with Ramesh Jarkiholi off late, has reportedly left for Delhi. Speculations are rife that Congress leader Siddaramaiah is wooing Savadi with the help of a few leaders from Kalyana Karnataka and Kittur Karnataka

He is joined by several other MLAs from Kittur Karnataka and Kalyana Karnataka regions.

Laxman Savadi had been a three-time BJP MLA from Athani, Belagavi district (2004, 2008 and 2013). But he suffered defeat against Congress candidate Mahesh Kumtalli in 2018. Later, Kumtalli joined BJP. During the Yediyurappa government, Savadi was the deputy chief minister.

This time around, there was a stiff competition between Savadi and Kumtalli. With former minister Ramesh Jarkiholi supporting Kumtalli, Savadi had remained on the sidelines. While the BJP is yet to announce its list of candidates, Kumtalli has already begun campaigning in the constituency. Apparently disappointed with the developments, Savadi had remained silent. Now, that he is in Delhi, rumours are rife that he may join the Congress camp.
