Mysuru: With speculations rife over Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa on his way out, Lingayat Gowda Mahasabha has demanded to select Beelgi MLA and Mines and Geology Minister Murugesh Nirani as successor to Yediyurappa.
Lingayat Gowda Mahasabha State President
Alanahalli Puttaswamy said “Yediyurappa handled flood related situation and prevailing Covid crises, effectively. BJP should consider all these and continue Yediyurappa in office,” he said.
He also insisted that “if BJP high command has decided for leadership change, the next chief minister should also be from the community. There are leaders like Murugesh Nirani and C C Patil in the party. The community has 42 MLAs in the Assembly. Hence, the community needs a genuine leader,” he claimed.
Another leader Cable Mahesh said “Lingayat community has been backing Yediyurappa and it is also the wish of several mutts to continue Yediyurappa as CM. Similar is the feeling among the community in Mysuru region too,” he added.
Jagadeesh, Shivamallappa and virupaksha were present.
