Bengaluru: Reiterating his statement that he was no saint, former minister V Somanna – on Sunday – said that he was one of the strong contenders for the party State unit president’s post.
Speaking to mediapersons here on Sunday, Somanna said that he has faced many challenges after joining the BJP. But he was not the one to sit quiet and brood over it. “I am unemployed now after accepting the party’s task to contest in two constituencies in the Assembly elections. But the loss in two constituencies will not deter me and I am ready to accept whatever responsibility the party will entrust me with in future. I have vowed to earn back whatever I have lost,” he said.
He further said that he will always work for the people as he does not know scheming. “I have made my intentions clear of steering the party ahead as its state president. I will wait till the party decides on it. If there are more suitable candidates than me to head the party, I will accept the party’s decision. I will work as a common party worker,” he added.
He further said that by accepting the party’s task to contest in Varuna and Chamarajanagar constituencies, he has suffered defeat. “Had I contested from Govindarajanagar constituency, I would have won hands down. But, I have vowed to earn back whatever I have lost. I am here to do politics,” Somanna said.
On BJP State president Nalin Kumar Kateel’s willingness to tender resignation to the post, Somanna said that the credit of building the party from booth level must to go to Kateel. It was due to Kateel’s vision that the party resonates with the people, today, Somanna said.
