Bengaluru: Faced with stiff confrontation within the family over a candidate to Hassan Assembly constituency, the JDS leaders held a close-door discussion in the presence of party supremo H D Deve Gowda at the latter’s residence at Padmanabhanagar here on Sunday.
Ever since JDS MLA H D Revanna’s wife Bhavani Revanna self-proclaimed to be the candidate for Hassan constituency, the differences between the brothers have been out in the open. While JDS leader H D Kumaraswamy is reportedly keen to field Swaroop Prakash from the constituency, Revanna is reportedly hell-bent on fielding his wife, Bhavani Revanna. JDS which was the first party to release its first list of candidates for the upcoming Assembly elections, it is not yet been able to finalise candidate for Hassan constituency.
Sensing the tension within the family, former prime minister Deve Gowda, reportedly asked the warring groups not to make any comments in any platform, until the party candidates’ list is out.
On Sunday, Kumaraswamy had stated that the Hassan Assembly ticket issue was a small issue which would be sorted out. Several reports quoted insiders that Revanna camp has allegedly threatened to fight the Assembly elections, independently, if Bhavani Revanna is not allowed to contest from Hassan. Their argument was Swaroop’s father late JDS MLA H S Prakash, had already been given a chance. Late MLA Prakash was a four-time MLA.
With their differences being made public everywhere, Kumaraswamy had recently stated that he would not tolerate rebellion within the party. Since the party is yet to finalise a candidate for Hassan, the party workers are in confusion over whom to work in the constituency.
JDS is expected to release its second list of candidates on Monday or Tuesday. But it is not clear whether the list would have a candidate for Hassan Assembly constituency.
