Farmers’ leader thanks govt for package but appeals to consider fruit growers too

Mysuru: Farmers leader Kurbur Shanthakumar welcomed Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa’s decision to provide a relief package to farmers involved in floriculture.

In view of the lockdown, farmers growing flowers had suffered huge losses as there was no market for their produce. The chief minister on Wednesday announced to provide Rs 25,000 per hectare to these growers.

He also lauded the government’s decision to provide relief to workers, labourers, barbers, auto drivers and other working class community. This has instilled them with hopes, he observed.

Meanwhile, he has appealed to the government to consider farmers of banana plantation, tomato, onion, grapes, papaya, watermelon and muskmelon who have suffered losses during this lockdown. They have incurred losses up to lakhs due to fall in price.

He urged the government to consider these growers under the special relief package.
