Mysuru: Nearly, 5,000 taxi and cab drivers are elated with the state government’s decision to provide them Rs 5,000 as lockdown relief.

These yellow-badged workers were rendered jobless after the nation went into lockdown due to Covid-19 pandemic, over 40 days ago.
The state government’s relief had helped the drivers as they were facing problems with no job. They were also facing issues like paying insurance and tax.
On Wednesday, Mysuru Old Taxi Stand Association President Ravi AC thanked the government for understanding problems of drivers conmunity.
Speaking to Mysoorunews.com, he said that “This has come as a ray of hope to the distressed drivers. In Mysuru, more than 60 per cent of us are depending on tourism. Ever since the lockdown was enforced, drivers community had been going through a rough phase.”
Similarly, Namma Chalakara Trade Union Mysuru President Ravi Chandra observed that the compensation came as a big relief. He urged the government to consider drivers facing insurance and tax issues.
“The drivers are already upset with the RTO issuing notice on tax to them. We appeal to the government to bail us through this,” he said.
