Mysuru: Farmers’ groups have pledged their support to political parties that show commitment towards farmers’ manifesto.
Disclosing this to the media here on Tuesday, Karnataka State Sugarcane Growers’ Association and Federation of Farmers Organization President Kurubur Shantakumar said that the farmers groups had recently organized an interaction over farmers’ manifesto with political parties in Bengaluru. Except BJP, all political parties – Congress, JDS and AAP – promised to review the manifesto. But the BJP ignored the farmers’ invite and this shows their arrogance towards the farming community, said Shantakumar.
He further said that a deadline of 15 days will be given to political parties to express their opinion on the manifesto. “Whichever party supports out manifesto, will get the backing of farmers,” he added.
Blaming the BJP government for being insensitive towards farmers’ interests, he said that although the sugar cane growers got a Rs 150 hike after protesting for 39 days, the sugar factories have brought a stay order on the hike. Government advocate did not argue against the sugar factories leaving growers in lurch. “This government is in favour of factories not farmers,” he said.
