2 min read

Mysuru: Understanding the necessity to develop Kukkarahalli lake into a well-maintained joggers’ and walkers’ park, Deputy Commissioner Dr K V Rajendra visited the lake on Saturday and gathered opinion from the public.

During his visit, people submitted that the lake needs to be developed with a proper jogging track as this is one of the favourite spots for joggers. They also urged him to clear weeds and other garbage to prevent foul smell from the water body. They also emphasised upon the desilting of the lake to help the water body to sustain itself.

Assuring them quick action, Deputy Commissioner Dr Rajendra said that a master plan will be prepared soon and measures will be taken to utilise the Mysore University’s CSR funds for management and improvement of micro plants in the lake. He called upon the people to join hands in the district administration’s initiative to keep the water body clean.

Speaking on the occasion, environmentalist Prof M Ravikumar said that the waterbody is home to many migratory birds and the authorities must ensure they are not disturbed in the name of development.

One of the joggers present at the meeting observed that the lake is an important lung space as it is located in the heart of the city. But it needs good management like collecting fees after 9 am to 5 pm to enter the lake. This would not cause inconvenience to joggers and walkers who are regular at the lake. Besides, having prescribed fees during the stipulated time will also allow visitors to enjoy the lake, he said.

Mysuru City Corporation Commissioner Lakshmikantha Reddy, Mysore University Vice-chancellor Prof Lokanath N K and Registrar Shaylaja were present.
