Dasara elephant Gopalaswamy dies in fight with wild jumbo

Mysuru: Dasara elephant Gopalaswamy on Wednesday died after a fight with wild elephant at Nagarahole forest.
The 39-year-old elephant of Mathigodu elephant camp had participated in five Dasara festivals including the recent Dasara.
As is the practice, Gopalaswamy was released into the forest along with other elephants for grazing. It is during that time, another elephant in mast attacked Gopalaswamy.
The mahouts and kavadis who heard a strange sound followed into the forest, only to see Gopalaswamy succumbed to its injuries.
