Students of Ranga Rao Memorial School for Differently Abled visit DFRL

Mysuru: Ranga Rao Memorial School for Differently Abled (RMSD) of NR Foundation, organised a visit for its students to the Defence Food Research Laboratory (DFRL) of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) on the occasion of Children’s Day.

In all 50 students from class 8 – 10 were given this opportunity to expand their learning boundaries by visiting and observing the findings of the Defence Food Research Laboratory (DFRL).

The Defence Food Research Laboratory (DFRL) conducts research on a variety of food science and technology topics, including the production of convenience foods, food preservation, nutritional and biochemical evaluation, food safety, and food packaging.

Dr Balakrishna & Lakshman, two Defence Food Research Laboratory Scientists, explained and facilitated the entire visit to the students of Ranga Rao Memorial School for Differently Abled.

Speaking about the visit, Guru, Chairman, NR Group, says, ‘We think that a child learns better when they have real-world experiences, thus we make sure that at RMSD they get the chance to actually go through the experiential learning process. Visit to DFRL gives the students an insight into the real world and happenings that prepares them for a better tomorrow.’

Deepa, a class 9 student shared her experience on the visit and said that, “It was an exciting visit to the Defence Food Research Laboratory (DFRL) where we got to learn about the food industry. We were given the chance to feel the products by touching them and also they gave us a few food products to taste. They were very delicious and as a whole, the visit was very informative.”

Jaanavi, a student of class 8 also shared her experience based on the visit.

She says, “The school is a home for us and these kinds of activities help us learn with knowledge. I am very thankful to the school for taking us to the Defence Food Research Laboratory (DFRL) on Children’s Day. This gives us inspiration to dream higher and achieve all our goals. Being able to feel and taste the products was a dream come true for us.”

The visit on the occasion of Children’s Day was indeed a fruitful one and it helped the children of Ranga Rao Memorial School for Differently Abled experience a different learning process altogether.

Ranga Rao Memorial School for Disabled [RMSD] is a free residential school for visually challenged girls from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, giving them the confidence to be responsible for themselves. It is the only school in Karnataka State exclusive to Girls, the current strength of the school is 100, with a committed set of teachers and Ranga family members serving them for the last 35 years.

Students passed out from the school are today working at various institutions and leading their life with dignity which stands testimonial to the noble cause initiated by the NR group.
