Mysuru: The Dasara elephants began their practice of walking on Raja Marga to prep for Jamboo Savari, on Friday.
On a cloudy morning, the first batch of eight Dasara elephants – Ahimanyu, Mahendra, Bhima, Dhananjaya, Gopi, Kanjan, Vijaya and Varalakshmi – began their march from Mysore Palace to Bannimantap covering 4.5 kilometers. This is the route that these elephants will take as part of the iconic Jamboo Savari on Vijayadashami day. The practice that will be held in morning and evening will acclimatize them on the procession route.

Howdah elephant, Abhimnayu led the team from Mysore Palace to Bannimantap covering Chamarajendra Wadiyar Circle, Albert Victor Road, Krishnaraja Wadiyar Circle, Sayyaji Rao Road, Visveswaraiah Circle (Ayurveda Hospital), RMC, Bamboo Bazar, Abhul Kalam Azad Circle, and next Nelson Mandela Road finally reached the Bannimantap torchlight parade ground where the Jamboo Savari procession culminates .
Before these pachyderms were taken out on march, a magnet strip vehicle was driven on the route to pick up nails and other sharp objectives (if any) on the road. Once the route was clear, the jumbos went on a majestic practice.

Veterinarian Dr Muzeeb, DCF Sourabh Kumar and staff were given security. Onlookers stood by the side and captured the jumbos’ morning practice on their smartphones.
