CSRTI quarters to get more lung space

Mysuru: Three acres of land that had remained unused at the residential quarters of central Sericulture Research and Training Institute ( CSRTI) in Vidyaranyapuram in the city will be transformed into a lung space in another few years.

On account of World Environment Day on Wednesday, the institute launched a massive exercise to plant coconut and mulberry saplings. Coconut saplings numbering 100 and 250 of mulberry saplings will be planted on the vast extent of land.

The land at CSRTI where coconut and mulberry saplings are being planted in Mysuru on Wednesday.

The motive is also to cultivate fruit bearing mulberry plants that will also attract a good number of birds, considered a part of the environment. Besides, the fruit produced here may also help in generating income, along with the coconuts, for the central government owned institute.

The saplings were the result of generous contribution made by the employees again at the institute.

To spread the cause of environment day, a drawing and painting competition had been organised for the children of the employees. Thirty children in different age groups enthusiastically participated in the contest on the topic- Air Pollution.

CSRTI Director Dr R S Teotia, scientists Dr B T Srinivas, Shivakumar Hukkeri, N G Selvaraj, Ranjani and others attended the event.
