Covid-19: Social distancing takes a hit at Shankaracharya jayanti

Mysuru: Social distancing took a hit when more than 100 gathered to celebrate Shankaracharya Jayanti at Shankar Mutt here on Tuesday.
The event was organised by the Kannada and Culture Department. MLAs SA Ramadas, Nagendra and former MLA MK Somashekhar took part in the programme.
MLA Ramadas stated that they did not enter the temple and but only paid floral tributes to the portraits of Shankaracharya and Ramanujacharya.
Kannada and Culture department Assistant Director H Channappa said that since the government has restricted all kinds of religious programmes, the jayanthi was organised in a very simple manner. He said, they allowed the people to offer only garlands.
