Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to visit Kudala Sangama today; eyes Lingayat community support

Bagalkot: Ahead of Karnataka elections scheduled for May 10 where caste calculations play a decisive role, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is visiting Kudala Sangama to take part in Basava Jayanti celebrations on Sunday. Prominent Lingayat Mutt heads and community leaders will take part in the event.
After former BJP MLA and prominent Lingayat leader Jagdish Shettar joined Congress, the Congress is exuding confidence that it would win the community’s support, who form the major vote base in the State. They got further support when Laxman Savadi, former deputy chief minister and another Lingayat leader joined the Congress in Athani.
But, facing all these BJP has taken the Congress head-on asking how many Lingayat leaders were made chief ministers. Chief Minister Bommai had said “Everyone knows how they treated former chief minister Veerendra Patil.” Former chief minister Late Veerendra Patil was a Lingayat strongman. The Congress has also been accused of dividing the community.
As if to counter all these, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is visiting Kudala Sangama, prominent seat of worship for the community.
