CM to unveil 108-ft giant statue of Male Mahadeshwara Swami on March 18

Hanur: The 108-ft giant statue of Male Mahadeshwara Swami, a revered saint, will be unveiled by Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on March 18 at Deepada Giri in Male Mahadeshwara Hills in Hanur, Chamarajanagar district.

 

Former chief minister Siddaramaiah had announced in the State Budget to erect a statue of the saint to attract more devotees and boost tourism. In 2019, then chief minister B S Yediyurappa had laid the foundation stone for the same.

Apart from the statue, a 25-ft cave-like structure has been constructed here. Besides, there is another statue of Male Mahadeshwaraswami riding on a tiger with Trishul. The statue is adorned with Rudrakshi necklace. According to folktales, Male Mahadeshwaraswami used to ride on tigers. Also, a Shivalinga has been carved here. There is a museum near the cave that will have objects telling the story of saint Male Mahadeshwara.

Male Mahadeshwara Swamy Temple is one among the most popular temples and revenue generation temples in Hanur Taluk of Chamarajanagar district.

It is said that Male Mahadeshwara Swamy was saint who travelled all the way from Srishaila and settled down in Male Mahadeshwara Hills. His miracles are popular in Chamarajanagar, Mysuru and Mandya districts and his followers also perform Kamsale, a folk art.


Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai along with Suttur Mutt seer Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Seer, Sri Guruswamy of Saalur Mutt, former chief minister B S Yediyurappa and district Minister V Somanna will be present at the programme.
