Excise department seizes Rs 8.23 lakh worth illegal liquor in Yalandur town

Chamarajanagar: In view of Assembly election- 2023, Excise Department is taking all measures to conduct the elections in a free and fair manner.

As per measures, the licence holders are under scrutiny and records are being verified to compare with the available stock, said Joint Commissioner of Excise Vijaykumar and Deputy Commissioner of Excise Nagashayana.

During one such inspection, Guru Krupa Wines owned by Pushpalatha (CL-2 type licence holder) at Yalandur town, was found having varied stock different from the record on Tuesday, the officers duo told media persons at a press conference organised at Excise Dy SP’s office in Ramasamudra.

After inspection 1555.200 litres of Indian Made Liquor (IML) worth Rs 7.2 lakh and 670 litres of beer worth Rs 1.03 lakh, total worth Rs 8.23 lakh were seized, the officers said.

In a continued measure, bonds undersigned by 40 old offenders, have been taken under CrPC 109 and 110. From February 18 to March 20, a total of 16 raids were conducted, 85 cases were booked for various violations and 96 litres of illicit liquor, 1.1 litres of illicit beer and three vehicles, all worth Rs 1.49 lakh and 58 accused have been arrested.

A total of 36 sensitive licences have been identified in three different ranges of the district, including 10 in Kollegal range, 12 in Chamarajanagar range and 14 in Gundlupet range, the officers said, stating that the licencees are under watch to restrain them from indulging in violations of the norms related to licence, said Excise DC Nagashayana.
