Mysuru: It’s that time of the year again! The seventh edition of Mysuru Literature Festival will be held from July 1 to July 2 at Hotel Southern Star, Mysuru. Organised by Mysuru Literary Forum Charitable Trust and Mysuru Book clubs-2015, the festival, over the years, has emerged as one of the most eagerly awaited literature festivals in Namma Mysuru.

The festival will be opened on July 1 at 2 pm where Maharani Pramoda Devi Wadiyar will preside. Dr Bibek Debroy, Chairman of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (EVC-PM), and Dr Chandrasekhara Kambar, an eminent Kannada writer and Jnanpith awardee, will be the guests of honour.

This year, discussions will be held at different venues and in languages as the festival boasts a diverse lineup of authors who will share their experiences and explore various aspects of literature, media, art, and life.

Dr. Bibek Debroy will discuss the intersection of the economy and purana stories, while critically acclaimed author Perumal Murugan will delve into the freedom and defiance expressed through the written word.

VVS Laxman, the legendary cricketer, will share his insights and experiences of the game, and Commander Abhilash Tomy, the first Indian to complete a solo, non-stop circumnavigation of the world under sail

will take the audience on a virtual journey across the seven seas. Rujuta Diwekar, celebrated dietician and fitness expert will be talking about our relationship with food. Additionally, local young poets from Mysuru will have a platform to showcase their creative talents.

An exciting highlight of this year’s festival is the presence of Shehan Karunatilake, the recipient of the Booker Prize in 2022. Attendees will have the opportunity to gain insight into the creative mind behind the acclaimed novel “Seven Moons of Mali Almeida.”

The Kannada panels will feature renowned figures like Padma Bhushan Dr Chandrasekhar Kambar in conversation with renowned actor and theatre expert B Jayashree. The discussions will encompass authors with a wealth of life experiences as well as emerging talents who bring wit and wisdom to their work.

Expect to hear from esteemed individuals such as Vivek Shanbhag, Jayant Kaikini, Na. Someshvar, Abdul Rasheed, film artiste Dr Sudharani, musician Praveen Godkindi and wildlife filmmaker Amoghavarsha among others.

The festival will conclude with a panel led by Padma Shri Dr Manjamma Jogati, where stories of marginalised communities and their resilience will be shared.

In addition to the literary discussions, the festival will also feature a Kannada play titled “Ayodhya kanda,” written and directed by Prasanna, as well as a musical show by the folk theatre group from Shri Mahalingeshwara Nataka Mandali in K Hemmanahalli.
