Bahuroopi to bring Mahatma Gandhi alive on stage

Mysuru: Rangayana the State’s own theatre repertory is gearing up for annual Bahuroopi National Theatre festival from February 14 to 19. The theme for this year is “Gandhi Patha”.
Rangayana Director Addanda Cariyappa told media “to mark Mahatma Gandhiji’s 150th birth anniversary, we have chosen the subject, thoughts of Gandhiji, his vouch for cleanliness, truth, non-violence and workaholic nature.
Theatre festival is combined with plays, seminar, film festival and folk programmes. As many as 24 plays are the highlight in thus festival, giving due preference to Mysuru and amateur theatre groups, including all the Academies and Boards. Shilpa Kala Academy will be specially participating in the festival.
On February 13 Janapada Utsava will be inaugurated by popular icon Ibrahim Sutar, Sangeetha Katti will render Gandhi Bhajans and Janapada Academy chairperson Manjamma Jogathi will also participate.
On February 14 renowned film actor Ananth Nag will inaugurate the festival. Noted film maker Girish Kasarvalli will preside.
Six days theatre festival brings 11 non-kannada plays and 13 plays in Kannada. Artistes will be staging Yakshagana, Doddata, Bayalata as new adadditis to the theatre festival.
Food stalls bringing all the regional delicacies under one roof will be another highlight. Big Boss fame and theatre personality Akshata Pandavapura will demonstrate on ‘Ragi Mudde’ making, the popular staple food of rural area.
As many as 20 films will be screened during the film festival. Most of the films are related to Gandhiji, his thoughts and way of life. Everyday three movies will be screened. Girish Kasaravalli’s ‘Kurmavatara’ and ‘Sathya Harishchandra’ will be the main attraction.
Rangayana Joint director V N Mallikarjun Swamy, Rangayana artistes Hulagappa Kattimani, Prashanth Hiremath, Geetha Montadka, Ramanath, Kannada and Culture assistant director H Channappa and Mysuru Naturalists Association (MAN) Manu were present.
