Bengaluru: It seems the stage has been set again for a battle of sorts between erstwhile royal family of Mysuru and the State Government headed by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
This significant development follows the political plunge of titular king of erstwhile royal family of Mysuru Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, who has been named BJP candidate for Mysuru- Kodagu Lok Sabha constituency.
CM Siddaramaiah who held a cabinet meeting on Thursday directed the authorities to expedite the legal fight at Supreme Court to acquire Bangalore Palace Grounds and surroundings, the ownership of which has been claimed by the erstwhile royal family.
Interestingly, whenever Siddaramaiah is at the helm, the bitter relationship between Siddaramaiah and Wadiyars resurfaces, and it was during his tenure as Finance Minister in the past that Bangalore Palace Acquisition Act, 1996 was moved by the Government.
Following this the royal family had moved High Court which however upheld the decision of the Government. Later, the royals went to Supreme Court which ordered the State Government to maintain a status quo, with the final decision awaited still.
Bangalore Palace grounds is spread over 454 acres and the Palace alone stands on a massive 45,000 square feet land, with the total value estimated at over Rs 1,000 crore.
