Mysuru: Amid the heated row between left and right wing leaders in the city over the celebration of Mahisha Dasara at Chamundi Hill on October 13, Forest Department has acted in time to avoid adding fuel to fire.
A hoarding with various types of offences and fine amount under the title-illegal activities and fines, put up by Forest department with ‘Agabedi Neevu Malinyasura’ a creative image of a buffalo headed man, deriving inspiration from the character of Mahishasura, to discourage people from misbehaving at the hill, with the imposition of rules effective from September 1, 2023 under Karnataka Forest Act 1963, at the small circle connecting Chamundi Hill road with Uttanahalli temple road, had invited the wrath of left wing activists.
They had even taken up the issue with Forest department for wrongly portraying ‘Mahishasura’ whom they believe to be the founder king of Mahisha Mandala.
Sensing trouble with Mahisha Dasara already showing all signs of turning into a conflict with Mysuru- Kodagu MP Prathap Simha even warning to stop the event, Forest department removed the part of the hoarding consisting the image of ‘Malinyasura’, while retaining the remaining part that has a list of violations and fine amount.
Forest officials have also clarified that it was unintentional and respecting the sentiments, they have removed the part of the poster in the hoarding.
