Mysuru: Mysuru-Kodagu MP Pratap Simha visited Mysuru-based famed sculptor Arun Yogiraj who is entrusted to repair the statue of Gen K S Thimayya that was damaged after it was knocked down by a KSRTC bus at the circle in Madikeri town, recently.
MP Pratap Simha inspected the repair works on the statue on Wednesday.
It may be recalled here, that at a recent meeting chaired by Madikeri MLA Dr Manthar Gowda, former minister M C Nanaiah, it was decided to have the statue repaired by Arun Yogiraj.
The statue of General K S Thimayya was unveiled by Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw in 1973. In fact, it was former minister M C Nanaiah’s decision to have the statue as a tribue to General Thimayya. Nanaiah was then serving as the president of Madikeri Municipal Council. The statue was made in Ranchi with funds raised from various individuals and organisations in Kodagu.
Yogiraj is currently working on the idol of Ram Lalla in the form of a five-year-old archer which will be placed in Ram Temple at Ayodhya. The 12-ft 3-D statue of Adi Guru Shankaracharya at Kedarnath temple and the 30-ft statue of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose installed at India Gate are also some of his iconic works.
